The ICT Practical Course for GCSE

Further Details

This 93 page booklet comes complete with 27 files for use in practical work. The student is presented with a variety of practical problems each designed to support the development of the skills necessary for GCSE coursework. The course also concentrates on developing the abilities necessary in analysis, design and evaluation.

The student begins each problem by identifying performance criteria which are then used as the basis of the final evaluation. Some problems are supplied with a complete design which can be used as exemplars for the problems where the student is required to develop his or her own design.

The course is based on the Microsoft Office suite and includes work using Excel, Word, Photo Editor and Access. There is also one problem based on Microsoft Publisher. Three separate versions, for Office XP/2003, Office 2000 and for Office97, are included. Almost half the book concentrates on using Access, covering the importing of data from CSV files, basic queries, parameter queries, linking to Word for mail merge applications, use of queries and primary keys to link tables and the creation of a data input form.

A suggested time scale for the course, covering 26 weeks at the start of year 10 is provided at the start of the booklet. This can be used by the student as an individual log. A class list sheet is also supplied and this can be used to monitor class progress.

Teachers' notes, together with a complete set of answers, are included as a separate 32 page booklet together with a complete set of exemplar solutions.

For £48.00 you get a CD with the practical course, the files needed for the practical work, the teachers notes and answers and a set of sample solutions. The CD also includes a scheme of work and a theory revision booklet. Your license allows you to print and duplicate as many copies as you want within a single educational establishment.

You may edit the text to produce a personalised version of the materials but you may not distribute the materials to others. You may even sell printed copies to students if you wish.

I am happy to supply the CD on an inspection copy basis to any UK educational establishment. I do ask that you return inspection copies promptly and undamaged if you do not want them, and you will have to pay the return postage.
